Surfing Costa

Due to its beautiful reef conditions, Costa Rica receives an amazing swell. The form and shape of the waves the nearby waters produce are truly like no where else. It is considered one of the pristine locations in the world to go surfing. Surfing makes you feel carefree, exhilarated and at the same time exhausted. It is a huge rush that cannot be explained unless it is truly experienced firsthand.

To this present day my trips have taken a significant change in the type of tourist I have become when I learned how to surf in my hometown of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Since then I have evolved from a mass organized tourist to and explorer with determination to try these types of water activities. Costa Rica is known to be a surfer's paradise with its excellent point breaks, beach breaks and mesmerizing wave tubes (for the non-surfer, these mean the most ideal waves). And with beaches that are usually very clean, pristine and rarely crowded, Costa Rica is a country made for a surfer's hangout.

Costa Rica is ranked among one of the greatest surfing locations in the world in many magazines and websites. It is ranked 6th on this travelblog.

Kitesurfing

Kite-Surfing is a new sport that has enlightened me in the past two years. It is only a sport that has started in 2004 but has picked up and is now extremely popular to water sport activists. The sport can only be preformed in the summer time  here in Canada and requires very specific conditions. Costa Rica is a climate that is often sunny, and extremely windy. Kitesurfing is a huge rush, especially being in such a beautiful environment. The ocean provides an almost endless playground, in comparison to the small lakes in Ontario. The hang-time that kitesurfing can provide is an indescribable feeling that makes you feel like your on top of the world for a split second. The adventurous is quite addicting. There are people who dedicate their entire lives following the windiest conditions  around the world in beautiful destinations such as Costa Rica. Sometimes I dream of dropping out of school, and following this thrilling movement of people.

Location

Costa Rica is in between Nicaragua and Panama, the country is approximately 7 hours (connecting through Miami) away from flying out of Toronto's international airport. The motivation that I have for traveling is very strong, and I really enjoy flying. Costa Rica would give me much enthusiasm and anticipation because I know I am arriving in a whole new destination different from mine. And that is why I truly love the essence of traveling. Below is a map of Costa Rica.

Culture Exploration

I feel that culture exploration is a necessary component of a vacation. In order to realize the difference between country to country, culture exploration can give you a sense of realization. Costa Rica is still a country that their economy strives off of tourism, however going on the streets to buy food can give you an idea just how different their society is and give you a feel of the culture. It is still very important to be very safe when traveling through areas you are unfamiliar with. Culture is very important to my family, and I would love to know how Costa Rican culture differs from mine. Walking through the streets would give me a stronger feel of leaving my environment that I am so accustomed to at home. To truly feel like your in a whole different world, a cultural education  on somewhere like Costa Rica would make me realize how I do not need certain luxuries. It would awaken my appreciation for the environment as well more of appreciative of items that I usually take for granted at home.

Dirt Biking in Costa Rica

Dirt biking is an exhilarating way of touring the beautiful hills and terrain of Costa Rica, San Jose. MotoAdventures is a company based in San Jose, that provides beautiful tours with hotel accommodations. The two day tour would be a perfectly designed excursion for me.

For the 'Two Day Tour' you can choose to stay at the pacific coast at Hermosa Beach, or at a mountain lodge close to Volcan Poas. This tour package costs $250 US, and also provides me with overnight accommodation that can easily be done with the flexibility of staying at a hostel. This would provide an excellent education for the country that I am visiting as well as a thrill while riding a dirt bike.

Flight & Hostel Accommodations

The flight price tends to vary throughout the tourist season. Being a student in college; I want prefer to make this trip as feasible as possible while at the same time being able to fit my motives and desires. Thus my four month summer vacation is the perfect time to get away. The price of the flight is cheap, as well choosing a hostel like Solo Bueno Hostel in Costa Rica is an optimal financial solution. This cozy surf hostel, hidden within the jungle at Playa Guiones on the Nicoya Peninsula is a ten-minute stroll to the beach where I could surf during the day. It is also a short distance to a number of area restaurants and bars to experience the nightlife. Daily rates for Hostel Solo Bueno average up to $ 25 (US) during high season. There are two dorm rooms at the hostel, both rooms have fans and there are single beds and a few bunk beds. A company like Flightnetwork tracks cheap flights during off season. A flight in May would be the perfect 10 day get away to make this dream a reality.

Motive & Desire: Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a destination that can accommodate many different types of tourists. Everywhere from a organized mass tourist to an aimless drifter. I like to categorize myself as an explorer. I believe I would thoroughly enjoy booking a flight and doing limited preparation of what I plan to do once I am there. My motivation to choose a place like San Jose, Costa Rica is because it coincides with my desire for water-based activities. Costa Rica is known for an incredible wave break, and as a surfer; my days will be mostly spent in the oceans. It is also home to beautiful scenery and nature. Photography is a big passion of mine in and out of water. On days where there aren't nice waves or wind, I would love to explore and travel. Lastly, other water sports like scuba diving, and kitesurfing are additional activities that can not be preformed in cold Canada. Leaving my daily routine behind me and traveling to this new destination where I can be active is what I would love to do. I will be sure to document my experience in Costa Rica on this blog so you can enjoy my journey as well.
